RF or HIFU Around the Eyes? Why the Eye Area Needs a Different Plan

Both RF and HIFU can be used in selected areas around the eyes, but they solve different problems. STC usually starts by assessing RF for thin, crepey skin and fine lines. HIFU is more selective, used when the goal is modest brow support or focal laxity with an appropriate cartridge and safe treatment map.
Cheek depth and energy should never simply be copied around the eyes. The tissue is thinner, has less fat and lies close to the globe, orbit and nerves. Reducing the shot count alone does not make a poor treatment zone safe [1][2].
When RF may be the better fit
RF is more relevant for skin quality—fine wrinkling and mild loss of firmness across a small area. It still requires an appropriate tip, energy and distance from the eye; it cannot be applied indiscriminately.
When HIFU may have a role
HIFU may be used above the brow or in safe peri-orbital zones for modest support. Ultraformer III offers multiple depths, including a shallow cartridge described by the manufacturer for fine lines, but shallow does not mean safe in every position [2].
What about eye bags and tear troughs?
The cause must come first. Eye bags may involve protruding fat, lax skin or fluid; tear troughs often involve volume loss. RF/HIFU can only address the laxity component and cannot replace volume correction or surgery in every case.
Who needs extra assessment?
Tell STC about eye disease, previous eye surgery, orbital implants, recent tear-trough filler or active inflammation. The doctor may avoid a zone, postpone treatment or recommend an eye specialist.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can HIFU lift the brows?
It may create a modest supportive change in suitable patients, but it is not equivalent to surgery and is not directed through the eyelid or eye.
Can RF fix a drooping eyelid?
It may improve mild skin laxity. True ptosis, nerve or muscle problems and substantial excess skin require a different diagnosis and treatment.
Is treatment around the eyes more painful?
Thin tissue and proximity to bone can feel more sensitive. Energy should be adjusted to anatomy and feedback rather than forcing a preset shot count.
Send STC unfiltered front and oblique photos. We can help separate thin skin, brow position, eye bags and hollowing before recommending RF, HIFU or another approach.
