Loose Skin After Weight Loss: Should You Choose RF or HIFU?

After weight loss, STC often starts by assessing Oligio X when the skin feels broadly loose but is not hanging in folds, because RF is well suited to wide-area skin firmness. Ultraformer III becomes more useful when a defined deeper line needs support, such as the jawline or under-chin area.

If the face looks tired because fat and volume have been lost, a tightening device alone is not the answer. RF and HIFU cannot refill hollow cheeks or temples, and overly aggressive treatment may emphasise the hollowness.

Should weight be stable first?

Ideally, yes—especially if weight is still falling quickly. Facial volume and laxity continue to change, so a plan made today may no longer fit in a few months.

Low protein intake, smoking and poor recovery also affect skin quality. A device can support collagen remodelling but cannot replace overall health and nutrition.

When Oligio X may be the better starting point

It fits broad loss of firmness, fine creasing and a goal of making the skin feel tighter without intentionally reducing cheek volume.

When Ultraformer III may fit better

It is more relevant for a defined lax line such as a blurred jaw or under-chin tissue that needs focal depth planning. Hollow mid-cheeks usually need to be preserved.

When devices are not enough

A large fold of excess skin or a surgical-level expectation is beyond what RF or HIFU can deliver. More energy or more sessions cannot turn a non-surgical device into skin excision.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I treat immediately after losing weight?

You can be assessed once weight is stable and health is ready. If weight is still dropping quickly, waiting usually produces a more accurate plan.

Are Oligio X and Ultraformer III together always better?

No. Combination treatment can make sense when broad skin looseness and a deeper lax line are both present, but the plan should begin with the dominant problem.

What if my cheeks are already hollow?

Volume preservation comes first. Oligio X may suit skin firmness, or Ultraformer III may be limited to the jawline rather than used broadly across the cheeks.

Bring STC photos from before and after weight loss. They help separate loose skin, deeper laxity, volume loss and substantial excess skin—problems that do not need the same device.
