Can You Have Pico Laser with Active Acne, and What Should Be Treated First?

When active inflammatory acne is widespread, STC usually prioritises acne control first or treats it alongside the marks. Pico used for pigmentation does not stop new acne. Treating old marks while inflammation continues creates new marks and makes laser results difficult to judge.

One pimple does not automatically cancel every Pico appointment. The doctor assesses acne type, number, location, medicines and Pico mode. Open wounds, pustules or markedly irritated skin may need to be avoided or allowed to settle.

Acne red marks dark marks and scars are different targets

Inflammatory acne needs control of blockage and inflammation. Red marks involve vascular change, dark marks are pigment after inflammation, and indented scars are structural. One label of acne laser is not specific enough.

Where Pico fits

Pico can help selected dark marks, while fractional optics may have a role for texture in a suitable plan. It is not the primary treatment for inflamed acne and should not simply be passed over infected or open lesions.

Which acne medicines matter

Tell the doctor about topical and oral treatment, allergies and isotretinoin use. These affect dryness, irritation and procedural planning. Do not stop prescribed medicine solely to attend a laser appointment.

How STC sets the order

We assess the inflammatory lesion count, rate of new marks and the patient’s priority. If acne remains uncontrolled, the first goal is to stop new damage before focusing Pico treatment on residual marks.

Frequently asked questions

Does one pimple mean I must cancel

Not always. Send a photograph or have the doctor assess whether the spot can be avoided or the plan adjusted.

Does Pico treat active inflammatory acne

It should not replace a cause-based acne treatment plan.

Must every pimple be gone before treating marks

Not for every patient, but inflammation should be controlled enough that new marks are not constantly forming.

The more useful sequence is to reduce new acne first and then treat what remains. Correct timing makes the Pico response easier to assess and avoids chasing new marks every month.
